Moorooroo Park, The Barossa, South Australia night exterior, (c)SATCMoorooroo is the aboriginal for ‘where two rivers meet’ and was the historic name for the property back in the 1840’s. The name reflects the fact that the Para River and Jacob’s Creek both run along the property’s gardens. The boutique property has since grown from a small bed and breakfast into one of the Barossa’s premier boutique accommodation options.

Moorooroo Park is the inspiration of Wyndham and Patricia House, who having toured the beautiful countryside and seen the villages of Italy, France and Spain, returned to South Australia and transformed their 1840’s bluestone settlement from a series of rundown cottages and overgrown scrub land into luxurious accommodation set in a glorious garden oasis, reminiscent of their travels through Europe.

ACCOMMODATION - Moorooroo Park offers five individual luxury accommodation options:

Studio Suites – an indulgent European inspired suite with a sunken spa
Loft Suite – the original home of the Nitschke family and a beautiful bluestone building in the heart of the gardens and featuring an upstairs loft bedroom
Retreat Suite – a luxury boutique suite with a luxury Romanesque spa
Angus House – a luxury three bedroom town house, just a five min drive from the property
The Orchard Room – a beautifully restored villa set amongst the Peach Orchard and Shiraz Vineyard and ideal for a romantic escape.

Each accommodation affords guests privacy with a private garden and courtyard furnished with Barossan antiques. King size beds have voluminous feather duvets and pillows piled high, and guests may luxuriate in their ensuite Romanesque spa designed for two.

GARDENS - Moorooroo Park surrounds, The Barossa, South Australia, (c)SATCOutside there are numerous corners of the wonderful French inspired garden in which visitors may relax - the beautifully scented David Austen rose garden, secluded courtyards, an olive grove, Shiraz vineyards and fruit orchards, as well as the river banks lined with towering red gum trees, where laughing kookaburra are often heard.

DINING - Both Wyndham and Patricia are professional chefs and ensure that dining options atMoorooroo Parkare based on the best seasonal produce and wines to be found in the Barossa.

Lunch and dinner may be enjoyed at one of the romantic courtyard tables or in the privacy of the guests’ suites. Meanwhile, indulgent Degustation Dining menus,a series of dishes based on fresh local produce chosen for balance and flavour and hand matched with a glass of wine, are an attractive option.

Today they yield a selection of hand picked, pruned Shiraz, Cabernet and Grenache vines from the valley floor, from which a small range of Artisan red wines is produced.

Purchases may be made from the cellar door located in the elegant ‘Pavillion by the Creek’ just metres from Jacob’s Creek itself. The French and American barriques, in which the wines are aged for up to 24 months, are also stored in the original stone buildings.

Wine lovers may choose from a selection of red wines - 'Lotties' Shiraz, 'Samuel Nitschke' Cabernets, 'Anna Clara' Light Grenache and 'Silentium' Sparkling Shiraz – as well as a range of white wines which include the acclaimed 'Dolce Far Niente" (Sweet Idleness) late harvest Semillon.

WEDDINGS - The gardens atMoorooroo Parkprovide an idyllic backdrop for the perfect wedding and, since only one wedding is held at the venue on any given day, each couple has exclusive use of the property for the big day.

Wyndham and Patricia can also arrange every aspect of the special day from hairdressers, flowers and a string quartet to the ceremony, luxury accommodation, fine food and a romantic marquee.

HISTORY - Samuel Nitschke and his wife Elizabeth arrived in South Australia in 1838, eventually moving to the Barossa and establishing a farm on the banks of Jacobs Creek. Signs of Moorooroo Park's frugal German heritage can still be seen today around the property, in the smoke house where German sausages were made and the fruit trees which provided a bountiful supply for the evening table.

When Samuel and Elizabeth’s daughter, Eleanor, married John Gramp from across the creek, the two families set up the vineyard and so the Barossa Valley was born. The original Nitschke winery was built in the 1870s and the produced a famous wine brand called Moorooroo Park.
