The South Australian Tourism Commission (www.southaustralia.com) is hoping this new AUD$1 million (£653,000) exhibition, entitled ‘Saatchi Gallery in Adelaide: British Art Now’ will provide Britons with yet another compelling reason to include Adelaide to their Australian itineraries.

‘British Art Now’ , taking place from 29th July to 23rd October 2011 at the Art Gallery of South Australia (www.artgallery.sa.gov.au), will be the largest showing of British contemporary art in Australia in over a decade. It will feature around 150 works of sculpture, photography, painting, installation and print from over 40 artists, demonstrating the diversity and quality of artworks by artists living and working in the UK today.

The exhibition will take up nearly three quarters of the space at the Art Gallery of Australia, making it the largest exhibition they will host this year, and it will be the only place in the country to see it.

In 1999, the Saatchi Gallery’s exhibition ‘Sensation’ was scheduled to go on show at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra but was cancelled owing to mounting controversy in the USA. It has taken officials from the Australian High Commission in London more than a year to negotiate the exhibition and it promises to be both cutting-edge and challenging, offering visitors to Adelaide a truly unique art experience.
