| Green Shoots Turn to Gold for Woodovis Park |
| Woodovis Park (www.woodovis.com) in Devon has been named one of the UK’s greenest holiday spots, notching up further awards in recognition of its commitment to the environment. The independently run holiday park has achieved the highest grading possible on two counts, securing Gold in both the David Bellamy Conservation Award and Green Tourism Business Scheme. |
Situated on the edge of Dartmoor in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a designated World Heritage Site, Woodovis Park is a small park that’s big on preserving its spectacular surroundings. Owners John and Dorothy Lewis have introduced a raft of measures to ensure holidaymakers enjoy a more sustainable holiday option, from the solar heated swimming pool to installing their own 160 foot borehole. Other measures such as dedicated wildlife corridors, the use of indigenous plants, nesting boxes and feeding stations add up to a site that is a beautiful place to spend time, both for humans and wildlife.
The David Bellamy Conservation Award, described by Professor Bellamy as the 'Green Olympics' for holiday parks, was announced following a detailed audit of the park's environmental policies, supported by comments made by holidaymakers. The accolade celebrates environmental excellence and ‘wildlife wonderlands’.
The Green Tourism Business Scheme - the UK’s national sustainable tourism certification programme, the largest and most established scheme of its type in the world - commended Woodovis Park saying: “The owners are committed to sustainable principles and this is evident in many areas.”
Woodovis Park received particular praise for its sustainable purchasing, use of green energy and water services and adding to the guests’ overall experience by supporting nature, culture and local activities.
Woodovis Park is also the proud recipient of a Dartmoor First Award in recognition of its commitment to sustaining Dartmoor and its special qualities.
Woodovis Park sits in 14 acres in the tranquil surrounds of the Tamar Valley on the Devon-Cornwall border offering a holiday cottage, range of luxury holiday homes, 50 spacious pitches and the new camping pod. On-site facilities include a heated swimming pool, spa pool, sauna and shop offering fresh daily baked bread, croissants and pain au chocolat.
