John and Dorothy Lewis accept Silver at the AwardsThe Silver award for ‘Holiday Park of the Year’ was presented to Woodovis Park owners, John and Dorothy Lewis, at a prestigious ceremony at the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay last night (15 November). Regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the tourism industry, the Excellence Awards celebrate the very best in the South West.

Woodovis Park fought off competition from over 300 entrants to make it to the final stages of this pinnacle in the tourism calendar. The exhaustive selection process included a thorough review of the park’s commitment to accessibility, sustainability, recycling and the environment.

Accepting the award from journalist and broadcaster, Declan Curry, John Lewis said: “We are incredibly proud to receive recognition for all the hard work the team has contributed over the past year.

“We know that Woodovis Park offers a greener, welcoming and safe environment in a stunning setting, but it’s fantastic to get this acknowledgement that we’re one of the best!”

Alistair Handyside, Chairman of South West Tourism, commented on the extraordinary challenge facing the judges this year due to the high standard of entrants, congratulating finalists on their achievement.

This latest accolade follows Woodovis Park’s recent Gold in the Devon Tourism Awards 2010 along with Gold in both the David Bellamy Conservation Award and Green Tourism Business Scheme.
