New Quirky Dartmoor Hidey-holes -
Countryphiles Should Flock to New Shepherd’s Hut or Tipi for Two
February 2012: Lovers looking for a rustic rendezvous should head to the new Shepherd's Hut at the Prince Hall Hotel in the heart of Dartmoor for a roll in the hay (www.princehall.co.uk) or cosy up in the new tipi for two at Woodovis Park in the Tamar Valley (www.woodovis.com).
Shepherd's Hut at Prince Hall HotelThe ‘Dunnabridge Hut’ at Prince Hall is a replica of a traditional shepherd’s hut built on an old farm hay trailer found on the neighbouring farm. The en suite hut started life as a Great Western Railways Yard Trailer but has been converted into a cosy bolt hole with spellbinding views out across the rolling fields and Dartmoor wilderness down to the River Dart. The hut comes complete with electricity, hot water, double bed and stable door for welcoming the outside in.

Guests can choose to dine in the hotel if they tire of the totally tranquil isolation. Three course dinners including canapés and featuring the best local, seasonal produce cost from £39.95 per person. The hut costs from £98 per night on a bed and breakfast basis (sleeping two), including a sumptuous Devonshire cooked breakfast in the hotel.

Tipi for two at Woodovis ParkAlternatively why not cosy up in a tipi for two at Woodovis Park, set on the Devon-Cornwall border in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? The new tipi is the perfect love nest, with all the joys of sleeping under the stars without any of the headache of packing up a wet tent.

The tipi is the latest addition at the eco friendly campsite and comes with a woodburning stove to cosy up next to, and neighbouring sheep to lull campers to sleep. For a grand romantic gesture – with the pennies saved on the accommodation – gourmet fare can be enjoyed at the 2 AA rosette Horn of Plenty country house hotel and restaurant next door to the site.

Woodovis Park is closed during February but opens again at the end of March. On site facilities include an indoor heated pool and infrared therapy sauna as well as a shop selling fresh baked bread and pain au croissants daily. The tipi costs from £40 per night and sleeps two.
