Splashing About - The River Tamar, together with its tributaries the Rivers Tavy and Lynher, forms part of the ancient border between the counties of Cornwall and Devon. One of the best ways to see the Tamar Valley is by water. Head out with Canoe Tamar for a jaunt along the beautiful River Tamar, experience the delight of gliding in a silent boat in some of the most beautiful scenery in England, past steeply sloping woodland, old quays, mine chimneys, farms and boatyards. This is the perfect chance to learn a new skill as you manoeuvre your own Canadian canoe with a qualified guide in tow.
Hanging Out in the Tamar Valley - Try tree surfing, an adrenaline-pumping, heart-thumping bird's eye experience. The incredible treetop eco-trail transports you to the truly awesome canopy of one of Britain's prized woodlands. A complex of ladders, rope bridges, zip wires and walkways gives you the freedom to explore our astounding native broadleaf trees from the top down... and all in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Extreme Cornwall - The North coast of Cornwall is legendary for surfing. The Watergate Bay Extreme Academy gives you all the great things you'd find in a mountain resort - on a spectacular beach on the north Cornwall coast. Choose from a huge range of activities including surfing, kitesurfing, traction kiting, stand up paddlesurfing...you name it, it’s available here.
A quick buzz - From Watergate Bay, it’s a short drive around the coast to Lusty Glaze Beach and Adventure Centre. This scenic, sandy Lusty Glaze Beach is one of Cornwall's hidden gems. Surrounded by high cliffs and lapped by the Atlantic Ocean, the beach has fine, golden sand and a secluded charm. Activities include coasteering, rock climbing, abseiling and the Zip Wire, The Adventure Centre's answer to bungee jumping. At 750ft long and 120ft high, this aerial runway is one of Europe's longest, highest and fastest. It’s a fast, high adrenalin ride that requires a minimum level of instruction, so it is perfect for a quick buzz during your visit to the beach.
More to Dartmoor, for Free- Dartmoor is not just about the landscape, the ponies, or the tors, the history or the heritage. It's about getting out there, experiencing new things. Top activities include cycling the Granite Way or the new Drake’s Trail and horse riding. More unusual and free pursuits include swimming wild and letterboxing...
Wild swimming -Hailed in the Wild Swimming book as '...possibly the most magical wild swimming in Britain', the River Dart on Dartmoor couldn't be better recommended. The setting is a sheltered gorge through steep forests with natural pools and water slides. Bushwhack down from Mel Tor or follow the river up from Dartmeet. 'There's no better place to be swimming on a hot summer day!' (Wild Swimming).
Letterboxing is similar to a treasure hunt - navigation, walking, running or hiking on Dartmoor amidst breathtaking scenery whilst searching for letterboxes and the coveted stamps inside. There are thousands of letterboxes hidden across Dartmoor; under stones and in all sorts of nooks and crannies. They are found in waterproof containers, containing an ink pad, rubber stamp to mark your own book and a visitor book.
With a cosy holiday cottage, range of luxury holiday homes, 50 spacious pitches (including all weather pitches) and the addition of a new camping ‘pod’, Woodovis Park is perfect for enjoying the great outdoors in comfort. Pitch fees cost £16 during July and August plus £7 per person per night. Children under five camp for free. The new fully-insulated camping pod costs £50 per night and sleeps up to four people. A fully-equipped two bedroom luxury holiday home, sleeping up to six people, costs £506 per week during the summer holidays.
