|April 2013: A 30-year old PR Manager from Brook Green in London has won an amazing holiday to Hamilton Islandon Australia’s Great Barrier Reef to share the picture perfect paradise with the world via Instagram.
|Ido Simyoni won the trip by posting a photo that represented his idea of holiday bliss, his eye-catching image selected from thousands of entries. He will join four other lucky winners from Australia for the Ultimate Instameet: Return2Paradise from 17-19 May. The keen photographers will unite for a weekend retreat for the senses, seeing, tasting, experiencing and sharing the Island with their photo app followers.
Originally hailing from Israel where he worked as a TV Producer and Casting Director, Ido relocated to London after being head hunted through Instagram, joining Kaplan International Colleges as Senior PR and Creative Manager. The enterprising social media enthusiast began sharing pictures on Instagram two and a half years ago and now has over 122,000 followers.
His non-political Instagram campaign, #stoptheterror, gained support from more than 11,000 people around the world along with international media coverage including CNN and the Huffington Post. He has a weekly segment on Israeli radio (speaking about social media) and has been invited to give ‘iphoneography’ classes in New York, London and Edinburgh.
Talking about his win Ido says: “For me Instagram is all about sharing a story with pictures and words. I think that if you are open, honest and also have some photography skills, you can succeed on Instagram. Being one of the winners of Hamilton Island’s Ultimate Instameet Return2paradise is an amazing opportunity for me to explore heaven on earth, capture it and share it with my followers. It’s going to be a long flight from London, but I’m sure it’s well worth the travel!”
Sophie Baker, Hamilton Island’s Senior Communications Manager says: “Instagram is a modern-day postcard; a way to share your travel experiences instantly with friends, family and followers around the globe. Hamilton Island is an idyllic paradise in Queensland’s picturesque Whitsundays, so there’s no better way to promote the Island to the world than through Instagram, the portable, ever-changing mosaic carried in the pockets of 100 million users worldwide.”
Ido will join electrician Mark Seabury, insurance worker Rob Read and married couple, graphic designer/photographer Matt and fulltime student Mia Glastonbury, all from Australia. Staying in varying accommodation to showcase the Island’s broad offering, the eclectic group will enjoy incredible activities from gourmet beach barbeques and seaplane flights over the Great Barrier Reef to beach escapes and mountain peak climbs, posting their images on Instagram and sharing them across their other social media networks.
The first ever Hamilton Island Instameet took place in November 2012. A uniquely Australian Instagram campaign, Hamilton Island’s Ultimate Instameet involved a group of passionate Instagramers, including competition winners, well known Australian ambassadors and hand picked Instagramers, visiting Hamilton Island to see, taste and experience everything on and around the Island that makes it incredible. Over eight million people were reached through social media, with the Island’s Instagram following increasing by over 3,250%. A short YouTube documentary on the Instameet was also created by some of the guests.
